Atithi Shala - A Musical Play
Shravanam goes Light!
Atithi Shala - A Radio Musical by Rajani
This is a play on Sufism.
You can also listen to the musical style of relevance.
Vamsi-gaaru, atithiSaala was first recorded in 1940s in Madras. Recently, Sri bujjaayi (s/o Sri DKS) briefly referred to the birth of one song from it in his memoirs. Unfortunately that recording is no more available. It was later rerecorded in late 1950s, I think in1959, at AIR, Hyderabad. There have been so many references to this legendary piece from rajani gaaru. Also Smt. Sarada Srinivasan spoke in great terms about this piece and Rajani gaaru in general. Sri VAK Rangarao is never tored of speaking it in glowing terms.
Those who say that Rajani's equally legendary composition "OhO paavuramaa" is based on Rita Hayworth's humming in "Blood and Sand" (1941) should listen to this piece to know the truth.
I need to listen to the audio to name the artists. I remember that Sri M.V. Ramanamurti was one of the players. More later
Thank you for the info. It's a masterpiece, really it is....I just was stunned when I listened to the intro, may be I asked myself - am I on a different plant? What a soul it has....
Once again - Thank you Gopalam gaaru for the masterpiece and Thank you Sreenivas gaaru for the info...This piece is going to stick with me for a long time to come!
